Important characteristics of Sjogren syndrome include a sensation of dry mouth, reduced saliva secretion and swelling of the large salivary glands, usually the parotids. Sjogren patients also run a significantly increased risk of developing a non-Hodgkin lymphoma, generally a so-called mucosa associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma. Such a MALT lymphoma often develops in the parotid gland. In 2 cases patients presented with recurrent swellings of the parotid glands who developed both Sjogren syndrome and a MALT lymphoma in both of their parotid glands.
