Oral oncology Vol. 165 : 107350 • Jun 2025

Oral cavity skin cancers, including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, Kaposi sarcoma, and melanoma, can be life-threatening if not detected early. Dentists play a crucial role in identifying these malignancies during extra- & intra-oral examinations. This viewpoint highlights the need for interdisciplinary collaboration between dentists and dermatologists to improve early diagnosis and treatment outcomes. It discusses the clinical presentations of these cancers, the importance of creating referral networks, and the role of continuing education in enhancing detection and management. Early diagnosis by dentists can significantly improve patient outcomes.
