3D-guided grafting and implant reconstruction for severe oligodontia in an adolescent: a novel approach.

British dental journal Vol. 239 (3) : 175-179 • Aug 2025

This paper outlines the case of a 16-year-old female patient with oligodontia, missing most of her permanent teeth, who was unhappy with her appearance and was embarrassed and felt socially inhibited by wearing a prosthesis. She underwent dental implant surgery with an additional grafting procedure, carefully considering the potential for future interventions. Planning took place in a digital environment; graft and implant surgery were executed with the aid of 3D-printed models and 3D-printed drill guides. Unusual cross-arch provisional and definitive prostheses were provided in the maxilla to better distribute load. Significant improvements in the patient's social interactions and confidence were noted after treatment. This case illustrates the role of careful and conservative digital planning in the management of complex dental conditions in adolescents.
